COMMUNITY PLAYS
War at Your Door
The ghosts of the past explain what happened during The Civil War when the war came to southern Wake County in April of 1865. William Tecumseh Sherman has 50,000 troops in Clayton and is headed toward Raleigh. War is literally at the door.
More Than A Name
The 11 men from our community who died in World War II are honored at the Garner Veterans Memorial. But the names on the wall represent people. They come alive to tell you their stories, their hopes, their dreams, and, in some cases, their deaths.
87: One Town, One School, One Team
– The Garner Senior High football team won the state 4-A title in 1987. The team had outstanding players but the key to their success was the love they held for one another and the love the community held for the team. A teacher once said: There were no Black players. No white players. Just our players.
68: Our Finest Hour
Garner Consolidated, an all-Black school, merged with Garner High, a predominately white school, in the fall of 1968. The new Garner Senior High building was not complete, but the school opened because the community demanded it be opened. There was gravel floors in some rooms, there was no air conditioning, no cafeteria, no gym, and no auditorium. But neither were there major racial issues. It may have been the community’s finest hour.
Duty
The Vietnam War tore at the fabric of community as many of our bravest young men went off to war. The hardships they experienced changed them and changed our community.
INSPIRATIONAL PLAYS
Fanny Crosby Live
Fanny Crosby wrote many of our most loved hymns. The blind poet was honored with a national Fanny Crosby Sunday in 1905 and churches throughout the country used only her music in worship. This show, based on a historical event, creates a Fanny Crosby celebration featuring many of her most beloved songs, including “Blessed Assurance.”
It Is Well – The P.P. Bliss Story
P.P. Bliss died in a train wreck in Ashtabula, Ohio in 1876. He left behind a portfolio of many of the church’s favorite hymns. The play traces Bliss’ life and music to that tragic accident that claimed Bliss and his wife. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_77K0ZkSbog
Do You See Jesus?
The play was inspired by a short story written by Jimmy Stevens. A young boy is injured at a live nativity and asks a surprising question at the hospital.
Behold the Man
The play was inspired by the masterpieces of Antonio Ciseri. Ecce Homo depicts the appearance of Jesus Christ before Pilate and The Entombment of Christ depicts those who loved Jesus carrying His body to the tomb.
Mount Zion Methodist 200th Anniversary
Show N Tell created a play for the church’s 200th anniversary.
New Bethel Baptist 200th Anniversary
